A simpler life

So it's been quite a while since my last post, and instead of filling you all in on everything that's happened, I'll just pick and choose.

The most exciting things that have happened so far have been the excursions, we had one to Madrid/Segovia two weeks ago that was freezing cold but we went to some pretty cool places. One of my favorites was the Armory of the Royal Palace where they had a ton of old suits of armor, and weapons. Lots of weapons. The bus ride itself, while long, was a pretty neat part of the trip, because it was lightly snowing outside which looked really cool as the landscape changed from Mountains to Plains. There was a really sweet old Roman aquaduct that we got to see as well.

This past weekend, two other guys and I rented a car and drove out to see A Coruña and Santiago, we also stopped at the Playa de las Catedrales, which was amazing(unbeknownst to me, my camera was on black and white until we got back to the hotel and I tried to review the pictures). The whole weekend was a blast, we got to see some really cool stuff that wouldn't have been possible without the car. On the drive back on Sunday, we were driving through the mountains, and we kept passing really small villages that took less than a mile to pass through, and there were a bunch of old people walking around in "old" clothing, trousers and sweater vests over dark faded cotton button-downs, there was clearly electricity and more modern technology, but it was like their lifestyle hadn't been changed in decades. Although I love school, and can't wait to apply what I've learned on a larger scale, I sort of envied their lives as we passed them by. I'm sure that after a month I'd feel differently, but from the outside, it just looks like they've got a lot less to worry about.

On Friday we're taking another day trip and then I'll finally have a day to relax(aka write a paper) on Saturday. I can't wait.

  1. Believe it or not, I want that simple life too. I would also say that I want the simple life that was last semester back (school work levels and your presence being the deciding factors). if you want to run off and be a mountain man with me when you get back i'm all for it.
